General : KTMB Adds Eight Komuter Utara Train Services For School Holidays, National Day

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 24 — Malaysian state railway operator Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) will introduce eight extra KTM Komuter Utara train services along the Butterworth and Padang Besar route from August 25 to August 31, in line with the school holidays and National Day festivities. KTMB revealed in a recent statement that these additional services were introduced to accommodate the expected surge in passenger numbers during this period.

With this new KTM Komuter Northern Sector Special Timetable, the total number of daily services on the Butterworth-Padang Besar-Butterworth route will rise from 38 to 46. KTMB anticipates a 30% increase in passenger numbers compared to regular days, with the added services capable of accommodating up to 5,000 additional passengers daily, amounting to a total of 25,000 passengers over the implementation period.

Of these, four services will be allocated to the Padang Besar-Butterworth route, elevating the total to 23 services daily, compared to 19 under the standard timetable. Similarly, four services will be added to the Butterworth-Padang Besar route, increasing the total to 23 services daily as well. KTMB's decision to implement these extra services reflects their proactive approach to enhancing public transport capacity and providing more travel options, particularly for journeys between Penang, Kedah, and Perlis during the school holidays and National Day celebrations.
