JAMB moves to condone illegally admitted students in colleges

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has instructed colleges across Nigeria to submit comprehensive lists of students who were admitted illegally for potential condonation. The directive was issued following a decision by the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, to allow condonation of such candidates for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions.

JAMB's Director of Admissions, Mohammed Babaji, addressed provosts of the institutions, requesting the disclosure of all candidates who met the criteria for possible condonation. Institutions are required to submit the records in Excel format, adhering to a template provided by JAMB. The board emphasized the importance of accurate and complete information, warning against false declarations or omissions.

The submission aims to facilitate the processing of cases in line with the ministerial approval. This move comes amidst ongoing concerns over illegal and irregular admissions in Nigeria's tertiary education system, which can lead to students facing difficulties in obtaining valid admission records or completing necessary processes.
