I’ve no intention of rejoining PKR, says Zuraida

Former PKR vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin has declared she has no plans to return to the party despite President Anwar Ibrahim's recent call for party veterans to rejoin. Currently, Zuraida is concentrating on her "Jelajah Payung Besar" (Big Umbrella Tour) campaign, which she is undertaking alongside various NGOs to promote increased voter turnout among Malays in the upcoming general election.

She declined to respond to Anwar's invitation at this juncture. The campaign aims to clarify the implications of Article 153 of the Federal Constitution, which provides Malays and natives of East Malaysia with a "such proportion" of positions in the public service, scholarships, permits, and licences as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong deems reasonable.

Former Bandar Tun Razak MP Kamarudin Jaffar and former Nibong Tebal MP Mansor Othman are reportedly contemplating a return to PKR. Zuraida, Kamarudin, and Mansor were among 11 MPs who left PKR in February 2020 to join Bersatu during the Sheraton Move, which ultimately led to the downfall of the Pakatan Harapan government shortly thereafter.

PKR had filed a lawsuit against Zuraida, alleging that she breached the terms of a contractual bond signed before the 2018 general election. The bond stipulated that if she left PKR to join another party or became an independent MP, she would have to pay PKR RM10 million within seven days. On June 23, 2023, the Kuala Lumpur High Court ruled in PKR's favor, ordering Zuraida to pay the RM10 million.

However, on December 11, 2024, the Court of Appeal dismissed Zuraida's appeal against liability but reduced the amount to be paid to PKR to RM100,000, deeming the original sum "unreasonable."
