Islamabad’s Park Road Underpass Construction Update

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has installed signs at the under-construction Park Road underpass in Islamabad, providing a visual guide to traffic flow once the facility is fully operational. The underpass, being built near Margalla Enclave, will also serve as a route for motorists traveling towards Rawal Chowk. Side loops are being constructed on either side of the underpass to accommodate residents commuting between DHA Margalla Enclave and Islamabad.

While these recent developments offer some insight into the projected traffic patterns, the CDA has yet to release a revised completion date for the project. Previously, July 30, 2026, had been declared the deadline for finishing and opening the underpass. However, the authority's timeline has slipped, adding to the inconvenience commuters have already experienced while using Park Road.

As a result, traffic congestion and diversions have increased, especially during peak hours. Motorists have also faced challenges due to the limited road space surrounding the construction site. Once completed, the underpass is anticipated to enhance connectivity between Park Road and DHA Margalla Enclave, alleviating traffic flow towards Rawal Chowk. For now, though, commuters are still left without a clear timeline for when the project will finally open to traffic.
