‘Have kids reached home?’ Rain leaves school buses stranded for hours across Gurgaon

On Monday, Gurgaon faced a sudden downpour that left school buses and vans stranded for hours, causing immense anxiety among parents. Parents were most frightened by their children trapped inside the vehicles, unable to reach them due to inaccessible roads. Messages among parents highlighted the situation, with one questioning if the children had reached home yet. Several buses broke down amid the heavy waterlogging, adding to the delays.

Subhash Chowk was particularly affected, blocked by police due to waterlogging, preventing parents from retrieving their children. The disruption extended to other key areas such as Golf Course Road, Sohna Road, South City-1, DLF Phase 3, Ardee City, Sector 45, Sector 52A, MG Road, and Club Palms, where roads were submerged. Waterlogging was also reported around Sikanderpur, Rail Vihar, and the Dwarka-Gurgaon route.

Parents were not only concerned about the delay but also about their children’s comfort, safety, and exposure to rain and cold. One child who arrived home earlier was reported to be completely drenched, raising worries about those still stuck. The sudden onset of the rain compounded the parents' helplessness, as even those willing to venture out to pick up their children could not due to impassable roads.

For commuters, the waterlogging transformed daily commutes into prolonged challenges, with vehicles breaking down and traffic moving slowly through stagnant water. Residents noted that this was not an isolated incident but a recurring yearly challenge in Gurgaon. The incident once again underscored the vulnerability of school transport during intense rain in the city.
