Gunmen attack Rivers monarch’s palace during cultural festival

Gunmen attacked the traditional ruler of Finima Community, Bonny Local Government Area in Rivers State during a cultural festival. The Amadabo of Finima Community, Dagogo Brown, narrowly escaped death when gunmen invaded his palace and shot sporadically. The attackers allegedly destroyed property and injured several residents in the violent incident on Saturday.

The attack followed a dispute over cultural rites, masquerade displays and the right of families to perform traditional activities. The police have commenced an investigation into the incident, aiming to identify and arrest those responsible. One of the gang members has been arrested and is providing useful information to aid the investigation.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects who are at large. The attack reportedly occurred after disagreements over cultural identity escalated into violence. No death was recorded, but several residents were wounded in the incident. The Chairman of Bonny Local Government Council, Abinye Pepple, condemned the attack and appealed for an impartial investigation to prevent further escalation.
