Golf: Yamashita wins CPKC Women's Open, Yoshida 2nd in Japanese 1-2 finish

Edmonton, Canada – Japanese golfer Miyu Yamashita delivered a staggering performance to claim the CPKC Women's Open title on Sunday, stunning the field with a wire-to-wire victory. The 25-year-old, the 2025 Women's British Open champion, maintained her six-shot lead from the previous day's round with a 4-under-par 66 in the final round.

This remarkable effort saw her complete the tournament at a stunning 23-under-par total of 257, setting a new LPGA 72-hole scoring record. Yamashita's commanding performance left her nine strokes ahead of second-place finisher Yuri Yoshida, securing a dominant 1-2 finish for Japan at Royal Mayfair Golf Club in Edmonton, Canada.

Yamashita's triumph was built upon a course-record 62 in the opening round, which set her up for success throughout the competition. The 150-centimeter-tall player, known for her compact stature, displayed her trademark talent by collecting six birdies, including the last hole, against two bogeys on her final round. She described her performance as "playing a really good round" and expressed her delight at finishing with a birdie.

Yamashita secured $412,500 in winnings with this victory, her second win of the season following her playoff triumph in June at the Meijer LPGA Classic.

South Korea's Kim Sei Young rounded out the top three, one stroke behind Yoshida at 13 under, while Mao Saigo tied for 13th place with 7 under. Yamashita, hailing from Osaka Prefecture, made her LPGA debut last year and quickly rose to prominence, winning Rookie of the Year honors. She went on to secure back-to-back overall season titles on Japan's top women's tour in 2022 and 2023.
