Gachagua fingers Ruto, CS Joho and IEBC vice chair in 2027 electoral plot

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused President William Ruto and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen of misappropriating funds designated for security operations and redirecting them towards political pursuits, resulting in a weakened intelligence apparatus and demoralised security personnel. During a visit to Isiolo County, Gachagua highlighted the dire security situation in the region, stating that there was no financial backing for security agencies to gather critical intelligence.

He contended that over Ksh5 billion earmarked for security operations under the Interior Ministry were siphoned off, impeding the capacity of these agencies to identify and thwart emerging threats. Gachagua further lamented the plight of security officers, who were grappling with unpaid allowances and insufficient operational resources, leading to widespread demoralisation.

He specifically alleged that members of the Presidential Escort had gone without allowances for five months. Moreover, Gachagua accused the government of abandoning Isiolo County, where security personnel were bereft of basic necessities such as fuel, equipment, and allowances, rendering them ineffective in combating escalating insecurity.

He also voiced his discontent with political mobilisation efforts that involved doling out money to local elders for divisive purposes. As Gachagua wraps up his 56-day consultation tour at Wamunyoro, he is set to release his conclusions and articulate his political stance ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
