Four-month-old baby still missing as June 29 floods death toll hits 39 – Muntaka

Nearly two months after the June 29 floods that struck multiple communities across seven regions, a four-month-old baby remains missing, according to Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak. The disaster claimed 39 lives and affected 91,989 individuals from 18,398 households in 77 districts. At a Government Accountability Series event on August 24, the Minister informed that all the victims have been accounted for, except for the infant.

The Greater Accra Region was the most severely impacted, with 56,022 people affected across 27 districts and 17 fatalities. The Central Region came in second with 21,882 affected persons across 16 districts and eight deaths. The Volta Region reported 9,466 affected individuals across seven districts, with four fatalities. The Ashanti Region saw 1,461 people affected in 16 districts, while the Western North Region recorded 937 affected individuals across six districts, with no reported deaths.

The Western Region had an estimated 2,000 affected persons across two districts, and one district in the Eastern Region was also impacted, though no specific figures were provided. The ongoing disappearance of the baby highlights the unresolved tragedy for her family and the devastating consequences of the June 29 floods.
