Education Minister inducts KNUST Vice Chancellor as Chair of Technology and Consultancy Centre

On a recent courtesy visit to the Education Minister, Prof. Christian Agyare, the newly appointed Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), was inducted as Chair of the University’s Technology and Consultancy Centre. The induction ceremony took place in Accra, where Prof. Agyare and Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu discussed key priorities for the university's development.

The talks centered on science and technology education, research, student accommodation, and infrastructure development. The Minister praised Prof. Agyare's appointment and pledged government support, including funding through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), to complete the KNUST Teaching Hospital. This facility would enhance teaching and learning, especially in health-related fields, while also providing healthcare services to nearby communities.

The Minister also encouraged KNUST to prioritize Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education to equip graduates with skills aligned to the evolving Ghanaian economy. In response, Prof. Agyare pledged his commitment to advancing KNUST's mission and pledged collaboration with government and other stakeholders.

He highlighted ongoing efforts to bolster science by re-equipping laboratories and strengthening academic programs in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and emerging technologies. Regarding student accommodation, Prof. Agyare assured that the university was engaging private hostel operators to make accommodations more affordable for students.

The Vice Chancellor also committed to deepening stakeholder engagement, emphasizing that collaboration would be vital to achieving the university's academic, research, and development objectives.
