Dubai’s iconic Toyota sign will live on after landmark building is demolished

Dubai's famous Toyota sign may soon be removed from the Sheikh Zayed Road skyline as the landmark building beneath it is demolished in 2027. However, the company behind the sign, Al-Futtaim Toyota, has announced that they plan to continue the legacy of the iconic red-and-white symbol in the city. Jacques Brent, MD of Al-Futtaim Toyota & Lexus, confirmed that the company has plans to honor the sign's significance in a meaningful way for the future, but has not disclosed specifics about the sign's future location or installation.

The original Toyota sign was installed in 1981 and quickly became a recognizable landmark, earning the building its nickname. Despite the sign's temporary removal in 2018 when its advertising contract ended, it was reinstated in 2022 due to public demand. The sign has served as a reference point for residents and motorists, contributing to Dubai's unique character as the city evolved from a low-rise landscape to a city of skyscrapers.

As the Toyota Building nears its end, Al-Futtaim Toyota remains committed to ensuring that the symbol's cultural impact continues in Dubai.
