Dubai Weddings initiative expands support for Emirati families

Dubai's Dubai Weddings initiative has evolved beyond its initial purpose of assisting Emirati couples in organizing their wedding celebrations. Since its launch in early 2024, the program has expanded to provide comprehensive support services for young families before and after marriage. Headed by Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, wife of the UAE's Vice President and Prime Minister, the initiative operates under the guidance of Sheikh Hamdan, who emphasizes the importance of family in society.

The broader goal is to make marriage more accessible for young Emiratis and aid couples in preparing for family life and managing associated financial and practical challenges. As of August 2026, the initiative has supported the establishment of 1,411 Emirati families, with 418 newborns born to families in the program. Nearly 3,000 weddings have been held through the initiative, including 1,411 for women and 1,487 for men.

The program also offers practical guidance through its Start It Right sessions, which have benefited 2,591 participants covering various aspects of marriage and family life. Financial planning courses have reached 677 participants, while 251 individuals attended workshops on building homes by the end of March. The initiative has also garnered recognition, receiving five local and international awards for its social impact.

Director General of the Community Development Authority, Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, highlighted the initiative's success in creating a supportive environment for young Emiratis to build stable families. The program, accessible through the DubaiNow app, offers comprehensive services such as marriage preparation, counselling, housing, and financial support across various venues and initiatives in Dubai.
