Drivers urged to review their traffic records as Dubai Police seize 497 vehicles over unpaid fines

Dubai Police have seized 497 vehicles over unpaid fines in the first half of the year, urging drivers to review their traffic records and pay fines in a timely manner. Brigadier Juma bin Suwaidan, director of the General Traffic Department, revealed that some fines reached tens of thousands of dirhams, while several owners had neglected to renew their vehicle registrations for years.

Unregistered vehicles pose a significant safety risk to both the driver and other road users, especially if they haven't undergone necessary technical inspections to ensure roadworthiness, he emphasized.

Brig bin Suwaidan stressed that traffic fines serve as a deterrent against dangerous behavior, discourage repeat offenders, and reinforce compliance with traffic laws. The force will continue its campaigns targeting vehicles with traffic violations and expired registrations. Drivers who receive a notice are contacted first, urged to settle fines and renew vehicle registrations, before any legal action is taken and vehicle-related transactions are blocked.

Before any action, vehicle owners are given the opportunity to address the issues, Brig bin Suwaidan explained.

The campaigns aim to raise traffic awareness and reinforce driver responsibility, besides impoundment. Vehicle owners are encouraged to update their contact details with the Roads and Transport Authority and regularly review their traffic records, rather than waiting for fines to accumulate and become difficult to pay. There are various options available for checking and paying fines, including the Dubai Police smart app, website, self-service kiosks, and Smart Police Stations.

Additionally, flexible installment plans, such as through the Tabby service, are offered to help manage financial obligations and avoid legal and financial consequences of delayed payment.
