Dnipro seeks to buy multi-section trams with EUR 7.79 million EIB financing

Dniprovsky Elektrotransport, a municipal enterprise in Dnipro, has teamed up with the European Investment Bank (EIB) to issue a tender for the procurement of new low-floor, multi-section trams measuring 26-27 meters in length. The tender, a part of the EIB-financed Ukraine Urban Public Transport II program, is valued at over EUR 7.79 million, not including VAT.

The trams, which could be up to three sections in length, will come with essential spare parts, maintenance equipment, and related services. The tender submission deadline is set for October 15, 2026.

Each tram is expected to accommodate between 250 (±10%) passengers, possess at least 60 (±10%) seats, and include at least one wheelchair space. The initial batch of trams is expected to be delivered within 36 weeks of the supplier receiving an advance payment, with the overall contract duration lasting 52 weeks. In February 2025, Dniprovsky Elektrotransport had already signed a EUR 9 million EIB-financed contract with Tatra-Yug for the delivery of five three-section trams, three of which are already in operation in the city.

Moreover, Zaporizhia Elektrotransport has also issued a tender for the acquisition of 21 low-floor electric buses and charging stations worth EUR 9.84 million under the same program. These electric buses must have a passenger capacity of at least 80 people (±10%), including at least 30 seats, one wheelchair space, and space for passengers with reduced mobility or a guide dog.

The tender is scheduled to open on September 19 of the current year. In the past, a similar tender was announced in the summer of 2023, but it did not proceed due to a lack of bids. The documentation was revised following feedback from potential bidders and was announced again in December 2024, but it too failed to attract bids.
