DFB reveal date for Jürgen Klopp's first Germany squad announcement

Jürgen Klopp, the newly appointed head coach of the German national team, is set to unveil his initial squad on September 17. This announcement is expected to signify a new beginning for the team, following a disappointing World Cup performance and the exit of previous coach Julian Nagelsmann. Germany was knocked out of the tournament in the round of 32 after a penalty shootout loss to Paraguay.

The players selected for the squad will participate in the upcoming Nations League matches against the Netherlands on September 24 and against Greece three days later. Klopp had reportedly prepared a list of 57 field players for the final cut. A significant concern remains regarding the team's starting goalkeeper position. Hoffenheim's Oliver Baumann had played in the World Cup qualifiers but was later demoted following Manuel Neuer's return to the national team.

Neuer has since decided to step away from international football, leaving the identity of Klopp's first-choice goalkeeper uncertain.

Another key figure, Marc-André ter Stegen, was initially intended to be Neuer's replacement after the latter's first retirement in 2024. However, Ter Stegen faced numerous injuries and relinquished his position as the team's number one at Barcelona. Currently, Ter Stegen is on loan at Ajax.
