Descartes acquires Tai for $100M

Canadian company Descartes Systems Group has purchased Tai, an artificial intelligence-powered transportation management system for freight brokers, for $100 million. The deal is being funded with cash reserves. Tai's platform handles every stage of the shipment process, from generating quotes to invoicing. By adding Tai's technology, Descartes broadens its transportation management offerings for freight brokers and gains rich data on transactions, carriers, and shipments.

This acquisition is part of Descartes' ongoing strategy to expand through mergers and acquisitions, having completed 34 deals since 2017. Descartes acquired Latin American last-mile logistics firm Drivin for $30 million last month and Pittsburgh-based fleet safety solutions provider Idelic for $28 million in April. Descartes CEO Ed Ryan emphasized that combining Descartes' and Tai's solutions will enable them to better assist freight brokers in adapting to changes, optimizing freight execution, enhancing profitability, nurturing customer and carrier relationships, and facilitating digital transformation.

The company is scheduled to release its 2027 fiscal second-quarter results on September 10 after the market closes.
