Day 3 of ship-sinking, no clue of missing 22: It is a race against time in Bay of Bengal

The search for 22 crew members missing after a ship sank off the Odisha coast has intensified in the Bay of Bengal. Over 150 personnel from the Indian Coast Guard and an Indian Navy surveillance aircraft are combing the waters for the missing individuals, with no sign of the 22 yet discovered. Two Chinese nationals among the 24 crew members have already been rescued.

The Indian Coast Guard has deployed three ships and the Eastern Naval Command has sent a surveillance aircraft to aid the operation. However, rough sea conditions and deep waters are complicating the rescue efforts. The merchant vessel, MV Ocean Winner, was transporting 72,000 tonnes of iron ore from Odisha to China when it sank around 230 nautical miles from Paradip coast.

The rescued crew members are expected to be transported to Paradip Port in the coming days. The Chinese Embassy in New Delhi is monitoring the situation closely. The cause of the shipwreck remains unknown, with 20 of the 24 crew members being Chinese, three from Myanmar, and one from Bangladesh.
