In Sachsen-Anhalt, already tens of thousands of citizens have applied for postal voting for the state legislative elections on September 6th. As of Monday, approximately 48,300 postal voting applications had been submitted for Magdeburg, with an estimated 55,000 applications expected by election day. The city, with around 180,000 eligible voters, had previously sent out about 176,000 voter notifications.

Halle has received roughly 39,200 postal voting requests, having initially dispatched around 176,000 voter notifications. This exceeds the 36,800 postal voters registered during the 2021 state legislative election. The Social Democratic Party (SPD) faces criticism from some of its voters, with 47% disapproving of the party leadership, and only 20% supporting it.

The SPD faction recently criticized the party leadership's plans, particularly the proposed abolition of the state pension at age 63, which sparked discontent. The CDU's new first parliamentary business manager for the Bundestag will be CDU MP Catarina dos Santos-Wintz, who will succeed Steffen Bilger, whom Chancellor Friedrich Merz appointed as minister for transportation.

Dos Santos-Wintz, who was elected in Aachen's constituency in 2021, is a 32-year-old jurist and has served as the Union's parliamentary business manager in the Bundestag. Frei praised her as an outstanding colleague who would perform well in the role, noting her extensive experience, networking skills, and balanced, collegial approach.
