Body believed to be missing Jeju woman found near guesthouse

A body believed to be that of 37-year-old missing woman Jang Mi-ran has been discovered near a guesthouse on Jeju Island, more than three months after she vanished. The Jeju Provincial Police Agency reported the discovery of the body at approximately 10:46 a.m. in a wooded area close to the guesthouse where Jang had been staying at the time of her disappearance. The body was found in the last location where Jang had been confirmed to be present before she was reported missing on May 15.

Police are planning to perform a forensic examination to verify the identity of the woman and ascertain the cause of her death. Jang had departed from her home at around 10:15 p.m. on May 13. It was her boyfriend who filed the initial missing person report on May 15. An officer from the Jeju Western Police Station, identified only as Officer A, is under investigation for allegedly closing the case without contacting Jang or her family.

They had falsely recorded a conversation stating that Jang did not wish to communicate with her family. Subsequent investigations revealed the discrepancy.
