Body believed to be missing Jeju woman found near guesthouse

A body believed to be that of Jang Mi-ran, a 37-year-old woman who vanished from Jeju Island, was discovered on Monday near the guesthouse where she was staying. This finding occurred over three months after her disappearance, which took place on May 13. The body was located in a remote wooded area, approximately a 10-minute walk from the guesthouse, marking the final confirmed location of Jang before her disappearance was reported.

The Jeju Provincial Police Agency confirmed the body's identity as Jang Mi-ran, and plans are underway for a forensic examination to verify this determination and ascertain the cause of death. The case has taken an unexpected turn, as a police officer, referred to only as A, faces allegations of misconduct. According to the allegations, Officer A prematurely closed the missing person case after falsely recording that he had made contact with Jang, claiming she did not want to communicate with her family. However, further investigation revealed substantial discrepancies in Officer A's account.
