Bhopal’s Polytechnic Crossing Set For Wider Roads And Smoother Traffic

Bhopal commuters may soon experience less traffic congestion at Polytechnic Crossing after planned road improvements are implemented. The traffic police intend to widen the rotary and reduce the boundary wall of a nearby bungalow to create more space for smoother vehicle movement. This area is one of the city's busiest, with high traffic volume converging from Retghat and other important routes like Raj Bhawan and Smart City.

The existing traffic signal often remains off, but is activated during peak hours to regulate traffic flow. Though the signal is activated during heavy traffic, weekend and holiday congestion becomes a severe issue as many people head towards Boat Club. Currently, the traffic signal at the crossing is often deactivated, but is triggered during peak hours to manage vehicle movement.

Police officials revealed that this proposal was discussed during meetings with other departments. It was determined that making the rotary narrower would provide additional space for vehicles and enhance smooth traffic movement. Additionally, some dividers obstructing footpath space on the Retghat-bound road would be reduced. Traffic congestion worsened following heavy rain on Sunday night and Monday due to waterlogging, affecting areas such as Prabhat Petrol Pump, Ashoka Garden police station, Old City, Peer Gate, Shahjahanabad, and Bhopal Talkies.
