APC warns Adeleke against fresh crisis in Osun LG councils

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Tajudeen Lawal, has cautioned Governor Ademola Adeleke against any actions that could spark further unrest in local government councils throughout the state. This warning follows a recent claim by the Osun State Government that certain stakeholders are plotting to incite violence at local government offices and motor parks following the upcoming August 15, 2026 gubernatorial election.

Lawal addressed this concern in a statement released by the APC's Media and Information Director, Kola Olabisi, on Sunday.

Lawal advised Governor Adeleke to refrain from using security fears as a means to intimidate political opponents or interfere with the operation of local governments. He emphasized that if the government possesses credible intelligence about any planned attacks, it should promptly present it to the relevant security bodies for investigation and subsequent action, without any political bias. Lawal stressed that the people of Osun deserve protection, peace, and security, rather than fear or intimidation.

He also directed the attention of security forces to the fact that the APC-led Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) administrations are currently operating in the local government council buildings across the state. Lawal urged the Nigeria Police and other security agencies to ensure the safety of serving local government officials, workers, and other legitimate occupants, regardless of their political beliefs.

He stressed that no one should be attacked, intimidated, or forced out of their positions due to political disagreements.

Lawal demanded a sufficient number of security personnel be deployed at local government secretariats across Osun to deter any individuals or groups from taking matters into their own hands. He expressed concern over the potential repetition of the alleged mistreatment of Remi Abass, asserting that political disagreements should not serve as justification for abusing citizens or leveraging state power against political adversaries.

He urged Governor Adeleke to exercise caution and remember that he governs the entire state, including those who did not support him.

The APC chairman called on the police, Department of State Services (DSS), and other relevant agencies to enhance security measures around council secretariats, motor parks, and other critical locations. He emphasized that political actors must avoid inflammatory comments or actions that could exacerbate tensions, emphasizing that political differences should be resolved through dialogue, constitutional means, or, if necessary, the courts.

Lawal stressed that the security agencies should remain impartial, professional, and neutral, ensuring that citizens' safety is not contingent on political allegiance.

He implored residents to maintain calm and law-abiding behavior while urging security agencies to promptly gather intelligence, proactively deploy forces, and monitor sensitive locations. Lawal reaffirmed that the security agencies should not wait for violence to erupt before taking action but should respond swiftly to credible intelligence about potential threats. He called for peace, justice, and responsible leadership, urging the state not to experience another round of political conflict.
