Lucknow: AI-based tools can assist haematologists in analyzing clinical data, predicting disease progression, and planning treatment for intricate blood disorders, according to experts at the All India conference for young hematologists orientation program (YHOP) at King George’s Medical University. The two-day program gathered final-year DM clinical haematology scholars from medical colleges nationwide.
The training emphasized machine learning algorithms, predictive models, and their application in clinical decision-making and patient management. AI can aid doctors in discovering patterns within extensive datasets, evaluating risks, and aiding treatment planning. However, it was stressed that clinical judgment should remain pivotal in patient care.
KGMU vice-chancellor Prof Soniya Nityananda stated, “AI is becoming a crucial component of modern medicine. Its use in haematology can bolster diagnosis and treatment choices, but doctors must ensure that technology is employed responsibly and remains centered on patient care.” The program also encompassed medical ethics, palliative care, patient counseling, and medico-legal documentation.
Senior faculty instructed the scholars on engaging with families of critically ill patients and preserving precise clinical records. Participants were educated on ethical concerns surrounding AI and patient data, with an emphasis on verifying AI-generated predictions against clinical findings prior to making treatment decisions.
The orientation aimed to equip the graduating specialists with the skills needed for consultant-level roles in both government and private hospitals. Experts emphasized that integrating AI tools with clinical training and ethical decision-making would be vital as technology becomes increasingly prevalent in specialized blood disorder care.
