Accused stabbed teen to death to avenge girl, jury told

A 15-year-old boy admitted to stabbing another boy, Oscar Hamilton, to death in a shopping centre to avenge a week-long relationship with the victim's ex-girlfriend, a Victorian Supreme Court jury was informed. Prosecutors rejected the teenager's guilty plea of manslaughter and sought a murder charge instead. According to prosecutors, the incident occurred on September 24, 2024, at Woodgrove Shopping Centre in Melton, west of Melbourne.

The accused approached Oscar, who was with his girlfriend and friends, to confront him about allegations of sexual assault. Oscar denied the accusations, but the teenager grabbed him, pushed him, and stabbed him three times in the chest. Oscar later died at the scene despite the efforts of his friends to provide first aid. The accused, whose identity is protected for legal reasons, called his ex-girlfriend after the incident, apologising and expressing regret.

He was later arrested at a friend's home. The trial will focus on the teenager's intent in stabbing Oscar to death.
