‘Abuse, humiliation not suicide abetment’: Court grants anticipatory bail to advocates

The High Court in Accra has granted Solomon Asamoah and Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, former CEO and Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), additional time to prepare their defenses in the $2 million Accra SkyTrain case. The two defendants now have until September 23, 2026, to submit their respective defenses, marking their third extension of this nature.

Deputy Attorney-General Srem Sai announced the decision via a Facebook post on Monday, August 24, 2026. Asamoah and Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi are accused of conspiring to cause a $2 million financial loss to Ghana in connection with funds intended for the Accra SkyTrain, which was never constructed. Prosecutors claim the project lacked approval from the GIIF Board, the entity responsible for overseeing the fund's activities, omissions, and liabilities.

The pair faces six counts in total, encompassing conspiracy to deliberately cause financial harm to the Republic and conspiracy to recklessly squander public funds. Additionally, they face individual charges linked to the alleged offenses. Both Asamoah and Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi have entered not guilty pleas to all six counts.
