2027: ‘No better day for revolution than election day’ – Aisha Yesufu

Activist Aisha Yesufu has declared that election day represents the optimal moment for revolution in Nigeria. During an interview on Symfoni TV, she asserted that the problem lies not with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) but with the individuals serving within it. Yesufu maintained that to avoid civil unrest, elections must be free, fair, and credible, accurately reflecting the populace's true will.

She criticized the discrepancies observed in the 2023 presidential election results compared to those in the National Assembly polls. As the co-convener of the BringBackOurGirls Campaign, Yesufu emphasized that Nigerians must compel INEC to uphold democratic integrity, rather than relying on its self-regulation. She warned, "There is no better day for revolution than election day."

On that day, she predicted widespread participation, with people staying off work and travel to join the streets. Yesufu insisted that everyone must play their part on election day, stating, "We can easily do that revolution that people call for on that day. So that’s how we are going to follow it. There’s nothing like you are depending on the goodness of INEC. Everybody must do the right thing."
