Umno kaji sentimen akar umbi sebelum tentu kerjasama PRN Melaka, kata Zahid

Presidential candidate for Umno, Zahid Hamidi, announced that the party is conducting an in-depth study of grassroots sentiment before deciding on political cooperation with PRN Melaka. The President of Umno remarked that opinions at the grassroots level are currently mixed, and thus the party needs to investigate the views of its members and supporters before making a decision.

"Grassroots sentiment is mixed. Therefore, we conduct thorough research," he said following his attendance at the 2026 World Islamic Exhibition and Trade Fair (Witex) held at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL). He made these remarks when asked to discuss grassroots sentiment after Umno considered cooperation between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) for the upcoming PRN Melaka.

In other developments, Zahid confirmed that Umno will send a representative to the 72nd Annual Muktamar of PAS after receiving an invitation from the party. "We will certainly send a delegate to the said muktamar," he said. On Tuesday, PAS Secretary General Takiyuddin Hassan informed that his party had sent an invitation to Zahid and three other Umno leaders on Wednesday to attend the muktamar scheduled to take place in Kelantan on September 4, with the main assembly to be presided over by PAS President Hadi Awang.
