Swiss forward Embolo joins Atlanta United

Cameroon-born striker Breel Embolo has joined MLS club Atlanta United on a lucrative deal, according to the team's announcement. The 29-year-old Swiss international, who starred for his country at the recent World Cup, will sign for the American side for a fee of $18 million, one of the priciest transfers in MLS history. The deal is set to run until 2030, bringing Embolo to a team currently situated at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with a weak goal-scoring record.

Atlanta's sporting director, Chris Henderson, expressed excitement about welcoming Embolo, highlighting his exceptional talent and experience at the highest levels of world soccer. Henderson noted that Embolo's goal-scoring ability, playmaking skills, and hard work will bolster the team's offensive capabilities. Despite facing controversy earlier in the summer when he received a red card in a World Cup match against Argentina, Embolo remains a proven goal threat, having scored twice during the tournament.

Atlanta's previous high-profile signing, Emmanuel Latte Lath, has struggled with consistency, leading to his loan to Union Berlin. Embolo, who has previously played for AS Monaco and Borussia Mönchengladbach, was nearly barred from participating in the World Cup due to a past incident, but received a visa after authorities confirmed the incident was non-violent.
