Put it in writing, PH leader says on Melaka polls pact

Pakatan Harapan's chief Aiman Athirah Sabu has emphasized the need for a formal agreement in any electoral alliance between the coalition and Barisan Nasional for the upcoming Melaka state election. According to Berita Harian, Sabu stated, "If previously there was no agreement, then this time there should be one." This comes after PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang mentioned ongoing discussions between Perikatan Nasional and BN, although no agreement has yet been reached.

PH previously collaborated with BN in the 2023 state elections in six Malaysian states, as well as in two by-elections. However, during the recent Negeri Sembilan state election, BN allied with PN under an understanding that they would not contest each other. BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had previously indicated that Umno-led BN would continue its partnership with PN in the Melaka polls following their win in the Negeri Sembilan election on August 1.

Nevertheless, BN has since indicated its openness to discussions with any coalition. The Melaka government's term ends on December 31, and elections must be held within 60 days of dissolution.
