MCA keeps door open to BN-PH cooperation in Melaka polls, says Wee

The Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) has expressed open-mindedness towards potential cooperation between the Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) parties in the upcoming Melaka state election, according to MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong. Wee emphasized that any decision on BN-PH collaboration would be made collectively by top BN leadership and was not solely reliant on BN's political alliance with Perikatan Nasional, which contributed to MCA's success in previous state elections in Johor and Negri Sembilan.

Wee highlighted that various factors, including state-specific considerations, contributed to MCA's victory in the recent elections, asserting that assumptions about a BN-PH partnership in Melaka would not influence cooperation decisions at the state leadership level. Meanwhile, political analysts have proposed different interpretations of the situation, but these analyses would not dictate cooperation with any party, as it ultimately depends on the state leadership, according to Wee.

MCA's vision for upcoming elections, including the next general election, continues to focus on contesting to strengthen the party while maintaining a priority on BN. Wee stressed that securing a high seat count is crucial for the party to have bargaining chips necessary to remain dominant in forming a state government. MCA will closely observe developments and wait for a BN meeting to finalize seat allocation discussions for the Melaka election once the State Legislative Assembly is dissolved.
