Properties bulldozed over ‘protection money’? Police search NDA MLA Amit Kumar Ranu’s home in Muzaffarpur

Bihar police conducted a search of Muzaffarpur MLA Amit Kumar Ranu's home on Sunday, amid allegations that the lawmaker's connections to alleged "protection gangs" prompted the demolition of construction on a piece of land. Police discovered evidence suggesting the politician's suspected involvement in the case, which surfaced after investigators found signs of a coordinated criminal conspiracy involving property grabbing, financial fraud, document forgery, theft, deliberate property damage, and extortion through threats of violence or death.

The matter began on August 20 with a complaint from Prahlad Kumar accusing Sumit Srivastava and over fifty unidentified individuals. Srivastava and his aide Sunny Singh were initially arrested, and the MLA's brother Sonu Singh, dubbed "Boss" by assailants, was found to be a focal point of the investigation. Police uncovered a forged stamp paper during the search, which could constitute a case of forgery.

Police further uncovered that the disputed land belonged to a relative of Srivastava's, who had approached them with documents alleging illegal construction. NDA MLA Ranu denied the allegations, stating that the police had failed to find incriminating material at his residence and that the land in question did not belong to him or his family. The SSP vowed to uncover the entire gang and take appropriate legal action against all involved.
