Port Harcourt to host NPBL playoffs

In a fourth consecutive year, Port Harcourt has been designated as the site for the 2026 Nigeria Premier Basketball League playoffs. Originally planned for August 22-29, the tournament, also known as Phase Three, has been rescheduled to August 29 - September 6 at the Basketball Stadium on Niger Street. NBBF's Vice-President and League Chairman, Babatunde Ogunade, and Secretary-General, Amina Amanchi, praised the participating teams for their professionalism and performances thus far.

The eight-team round-robin tournament, featuring four teams from the Atlantic Conference and four from the Savannah Conference, will commence with pre-tournament technical meetings on August 29, with competitive matches scheduled from August 30 to September 5. Teams will conclude their stay on September 6. Six-time champions, Rivers Hoopers, are focusing on strengthening their unity and mental focus ahead of Phase Three.

Interim head coach Ronald Alalibo emphasized the importance of every player's role in achieving their goal to win the league, underlining the need for total mental and physical readiness. The playoff format will see all teams compete in a round-robin structure, with Hoopers aiming to reclaim the NPBL title after being dethroned by Maktown Flyers, who competed as Lagos Legends last year.
