Police probe viral video of motorcyclists allegedly racing on Linkedua Highway

Singapore's Traffic Police (TP) and Land Transport Authority (LTA) conducted a joint enforcement operation on Aug 14, targeting cyclists and personal mobility device (PMD) users in the area of Jalan Anak Bukit and West Coast Highway. The operation resulted in the arrest of 18 individuals, including 17 cyclists and one PMD user, for violating various traffic rules. The police seized bicycles and PMDs as part of the enforcement.

Among those caught, 13 cyclists were found riding without a white light at the front or a red light/reflector at the rear during the hours of darkness. Ten cyclists were also cited for riding without a protective helmet. One bicycle and one PMD were seized due to safety concerns - a fixed-gear bicycle lacking a working handbrake and a non-compliant PMD on a public path, respectively.

The authorities emphasized the seriousness of these offenses, which endanger public safety and contravene the law. They stated that they would continue to conduct regular enforcement operations in partnership with LTA to ensure greater compliance with traffic regulations. Cyclists and PMD users were urged to adhere to all rules and practice safe riding habits. The LTA and TP also engaged with the offenders to raise awareness about relevant rules and guidelines.
