Panic as petrol tanker falls, causes obstruction on Anambra road

A fully loaded petrol tanker overturned on the Onitsha-Owerri Road near the Army Checkpoint in Ihiala, Anambra State, on Sunday, causing panic and traffic obstruction. The incident occurred around 2 pm, reportedly due to a steering-system failure that caused the tanker to lose control and fall by the roadside. No casualties were reported, but emergency responders were dispatched to the scene to prevent a potential fire outbreak.

Anambra State Fire Service personnel used water to neutralize any ignition sources around the tanker. Eyewitnesses described the driver losing control while attempting to navigate into a service lane. The Anambra State Fire Service quickly mobilized firefighters and firefighting equipment to the scene. The tanker driver's failure to control the vehicle following the suspected steering-system issue resulted in the accident.

Authorities urged the public to remain calm and avoid dangerous actions near the fallen fuel tanker. Firefighters continued to manage the situation as of the time of this report.
