Mr Ikenna Azomchine, coordinator of the Obidient General Worldwide Team, has expressed concern that the Igbo people of Nigeria's southeastern region distancing themselves from President Bola Tinubu's administration could be detrimental to their interests. While speaking during a rally in Awka South Local Government Area, Anambra State, Azomchine urged the Igbos to support Tinubu's reelection and integration into mainstream politics as the key to realizing their aspirations for the presidency.
Azomchine, who has been in opposition for years and criticized several of Tinubu's policies, noted that the president has since acknowledged and reversed many of these criticisms. He highlighted the positive impact of Tinubu's administration on the region, citing the increased appointments of Igbos in the government and the implementation of numerous infrastructural projects in Igboland.
The APC chieftain emphasized that the Igbos cannot independently secure the presidency, but by aligning themselves with the political mainstream, they can create opportunities for themselves in the future.
He stressed, "We cannot gain anything by isolating ourselves from mainstream politics. We as Igbos do not have the capacity to make ourselves president, but if we key into the administration, we will be able to play in mainstream politics and also get our chance." Azomchine concluded his message by emphasizing the importance of unity among the Igbos to achieve their political goals, stating, "Right now, I believe we must have our turn someday, but the more we isolate ourselves, the farther we are making that dream come to pass."
