Murkomen urges Kenyans to shun rallies marred by goonism

Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has called upon Kenyans to refrain from attending political rallies where violence and intimidation are involved. Speaking ahead of the third edition of the Belgut Marathon in Kericho County, Murkomen warned that politicians who sponsor and facilitate goons should be held accountable for their actions.

Murkomen emphasized that the public should avoid gatherings where political leaders hire or facilitate goons, as security agencies are intensifying efforts to prevent violence during political meetings. "I urge the people of Kenya not to attend meetings of leaders who pay and walk around with goons," he stated.

The CS highlighted that the police have implemented an intelligence-led strategy to identify and arrest potential troublemakers before they arrive at political rallies. "I commend the Inspector General of Police for adopting a new strategy to arrest and detain goons even before they reach meetings to cause violence," Murkomen added.

Murkomen reassured Kenyans that the country remains safe and that citizens have the right to assemble peacefully. He encouraged political leaders to work with security agencies and adhere to security advisories and protocols. During his address, Murkomen also addressed the issue of drug and substance abuse, urging residents to join the fight against it and urging those without national identification cards to apply for them in order to exercise their right to vote and access government services.
