LIV golfer Harold Varner III removed from Indiana course for playing in sixsome

Harold Varner III, a golfer participating in LIV's final event of the year at The Club at Chatham Hills in Indianapolis, found himself in controversy after being asked to leave Bear Slide Golf Club in Indiana. This incident occurred on August 18, 2023. The golf course had booked Varner a foursome, but he arrived 30 minutes late, accompanied by five additional golfers, making it a total of six players.

Despite Bear Slide accommodating the group, the players insisted on playing as a single six-some, which the course stipulated was not permissible. The starter repeatedly informed the group that they must split into two threesomes, a request that was met with resistance from Varner and his companions. After persistently questioning the starter, Varner even sought the pro shop's opinion, but was met with the same response – playing as a group larger than four was not allowed, particularly when other players were on the course.

Eventually, the group played two threesomes, adhering to the rules. However, when they rejoined on a hole away from the clubhouse after the fourth hole, they were asked to return their carts and leave the course, resulting in refunds for all involved. Bear Slide's management took to Facebook to address the situation, emphasizing their commitment to fair play and adherence to course rules, regardless of a player's status or connections.
