‘Lanterns’ Cast and Character Guide | Photos

HBO Max's "Lanterns" introduces several key characters to the expanding DC Universe, drawing from the Green Lantern mythos. Created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, the show follows John Stewart and Hal Jordan as they investigate a mysterious alien presence in rural Nebraska. Here are the confirmed cast members and their respective characters.

Aaron Pierre stars as John Stewart, an architect/marine training to become the second Earth-based Green Lantern in Sector 2814. Pierre will reprise his role in "Man of Tomorrow." Kyle Chandler takes on the role of Hal Jordan, the first-ever Earth-based Green Lantern. Hal trains John to take over his position, wielding a ring powered by willpower.

Kelly Macdonald plays Sheriff Kerry, a sometimes ally and sometimes obstacle for Hal and John as they navigate the extraterrestrial threat in their small town. Garret Dillahunt portrays William Macon, a powerful man and Kerry's father-in-law, who harbors suspicion towards outsiders. Poorna Jagannathan plays Zoe, who could potentially be a love interest for John and a partner for William Macon.

Nathan Fillion reprises his role as Guy Gardner, another Earth-based Green Lantern and member of Max Lord's Justice Gang. Laura Linney, whose part was previously unknown, plays a Guardian of the Universe in "Lanterns." Paul Ben-Victor stars as Antaan, another alien involved in the Nebraska mystery, warning that "Manhunters are the most dangerous beings in the galaxy."

Jason Ritter appears as Billy Macon, William's son and Kerry's husband, along with their child, Noah, played by Cary Christopher. Jasmine Cephas Jones plays a young version of Bernadette Stewart, John Stewart's mother, with Nicole Ari Parker set to portray Bernadette in the present. J. Alphonse Nicholson plays John Stewart's father, also named John Stewart, in flashback scenes, while Sherman Augustus is set to play John Sr. in the present.

Ulrich Thomsen is set to portray Sinestro, one of the most significant characters in the Green Lantern mythos, having once been Hal Jordan's mentor before turning against the Guardians.
