Happ and Ramírez hit grand slams to propel the Cubs to a 19-2 blowout of the Mariners

On Sunday, the Chicago Cubs dismantled the Seattle Mariners with a 19-2 victory, preventing a three-game sweep. Ian Happ and Pedro Ramírez both crushed grand slams, driving in a combined five RBIs. Pete Crow-Armstrong added a homer for Chicago, bringing his season total to 33. Michael Conforto also contributed a leadoff homer in the third inning, resulting in Happ's two-out, two-strike grand slam with the bases loaded.

Mariners ace Bryce Miller struggled, walking three consecutive batters before facing Happ. The Mariners (62-69) were three games back in the AL West and three games away from the final wild-card spot. The Cubs (75-56) maintained a 4.5-game lead in the NL wild card. Miller also walked the bases loaded during a fifth-inning inning where Chicago scored on a fielder's choice by Alex Bregman.

Ramírez added another grand slam in the eighth inning off Jhonny Pereda. Crow-Armstrong's 33rd home run of the season came earlier in the same inning. Aaron Civale (6-7) pitched four scoreless innings in relief of Chicago starter Shota Imanaga, who was removed in the third. Seattle's Randy Arozarena, who hit a walk-off homer in Saturday's 5-4 win, belted a leadoff homer for the second straight day.

Arozarena joined an elite club, becoming the 11th player in MLB history with at least six seasons of 20+ home runs and 20+ stolen bases. Mariners utilityman Brendan Donovan was placed on the seven-day concussion injured list after being hit in the head by a baseball in the batting cages. The Cubs will take on the Phillies' Zack Wheeler in a three-game series in Philadelphia, starting Monday.

For Chicago, rookie right-hander Kevin Gausman (6-11, 4.58) will face Merrill Kelly (8-11, 5.37) of the Diamondbacks.
