Gordon makes two assist on debut as Barcelona thrash Elche 5-0

Anthony Gordon made his Barcelona debut with two assists in just five minutes, marking a crucial start for the reigning champions in their La Liga opener. The England winger, who transferred from Newcastle in the summer, replaced Lamine Yamal in the 65th minute. Gordon's first assist came after just two minutes when he passed the ball to captain Raphinha.

Later, he squared the ball to Fermin Lopez, who scored the fourth goal, making it 4-0. Despite only registering two assists for Newcastle in 26 appearances during the 2025-26 Premier League season, Gordon was their top scorer with 17 goals across all competitions. The victory began the team's title defense with a win, while Real Madrid also started their campaign with a success, defeating Espanyol at home.

Barca took the lead in the 14th minute through Raphinha, who converted a penalty after being fouled by Victor Chust. Elche managed to score once, with Karim Adeyemi doubling their lead just before halftime. The German winger joined Barca from Borussia Dortmund and was substituted by Gordon in the second half. Gordon then delivered the third and fourth assists, leading to the final goal by Lopez in the 79th minute. The Barca team will face Athletic Bilbao on Thursday, 27 August at 20:00 BST.
