GOF seizes RM1.135m in gold‑mining equipment in Kuala Betis raid; suspect allegedly misused sand‑extraction permit

On August 23, the General Operations Force (GOF) conducted a raid at the Kuala Betis Resettlement Scheme (RPS) and seized equipment valued at RM1.135 million, allegedly used for illegal gold mining. Four men, including a Chinese national, were arrested during the operation, which was carried out by the Southeast Brigade's intelligence team.

The items seized included two excavators, sluice boxes, suction machines, generator sets, 51 grass carpets of varying sizes, and three rolls of grass carpet. According to SAC Ahmad Radzi Hussain, one of the suspects presented a copy of a permit to extract sand from Sungai Nenggiri, dated January 31, 2024. Preliminary investigations revealed that the permit was likely misused to carry out gold mining activities.

No minerals or raw gold were found at the scene, and the case is currently under investigation under Section 158 of the Minerals Act (Kelantan) 2001. All the seized equipment has been handed over to the Kelantan Land and Mines Office for further action.
