Bangladesh: Four of Hindu family found dead in suspicious circumstances

In a shocking turn of events in Rangpur city, Bangladesh, the bodies of a Hindu family, comprising a retired schoolteacher, his wife, daughter, and 12-year-old son, were discovered inside their locked home. The incident has sparked a police investigation due to the suspicious circumstances surrounding the deaths. The bodies were found on Saturday night at around 11:30 PM in the Daspara area of Rangpur city.

Police officer-in-charge Nazmul Kader revealed that the locked house was entered by the authorities, leading to the grim discovery of the four victims.

The deceased were identified as Ganapati Chakraborty, a 65-year-old retired Rangpur Zilla School teacher; his wife, Pritilata Chakraborty, 50; their daughter, Agami Chakraborty Prarthi, 23; and their son, Priyam Chakraborty, 12. Local residents noted that Ganapati had retired from his teaching position on December 31 of the previous year. Agami had recently completed her Master's degree in English from Rangpur Carmichael College, while Priyam was a Class 5 student at the same school.

Concern arose among family members when they lost contact with the household. Puja Chakraborty, Pritilata’s younger sister, stated that she last spoke to her sister on Thursday afternoon. Upon discovering the family's phones being switched off since Thursday night, Puja and her sister traveled to the Daspara area on Saturday night to investigate.

The primary gate was locked, and all lights inside were off, prompting police to arrive and break the lock to gain entry. Once inside, the bodies were discovered, with the mother and daughter found on the staircase, Ganapati's body on the roof, and Priyam's body under a bed.

Family members expressed their confusion over the motive and identity of the perpetrator, emphasizing that Ganapati had no enemies and had been living peacefully with his family in their new home. Sub-investigator Subir Chowdhury of Rangpur Metropolitan CID confirmed that the police, Criminal Investigation Department, and Detective Branch had launched an investigation into the incident.

The exact circumstances, motive, and timing of the deaths remain unclear, as the investigation continues to gather information and establish details surrounding the tragic event.
