Gigi’s Kitchen wins Onga West African Jollof Battle for Ghana

Gigi’s Kitchen, a culinary venture led by Ghanaian chef Gina Abbam-Baidoo, has claimed victory in the second edition of the Onga West African Jollof Battle, securing the top accolade for Ghana. This highly competitive culinary contest gathered representatives from five West African nations – Ghana, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone – to test their skills and vie for the prestigious regional jollof title.

Chef Gigi, widely known as Chef Gigi, emerged triumphant after triumphing in Ghana’s national selection competition, where she outperformed nine other finalists for the opportunity to represent her country. Her success marks Ghana as the winner of the Onga West African Jollof Battle – West African Edition 2, with the winning team awarded a cash prize of US$5,000.

Chef Gigi was also honored with the title of the winning chef in the Onga West African Jollof Battle. The competition, organized by Onga, aimed to celebrate the diverse culinary traditions of West Africa by pitting talented chefs against each other in a battle of their unique interpretations of the region’s beloved jollof rice. The victory not only underscores Chef Gigi’s growing culinary prowess but also elevates Gigi’s Kitchen to a prominent position on the regional stage, showcasing Ghanaian cuisine.

In her victory speech, expressed through the winning message on the official competition artwork, Chef Gigi conveyed her pride in representing Ghana, encapsulated in the phrase: “We may be quiet but we’re fearless.” This triumph adds another feather to Chef Gigi’s cap, further cementing Gigi’s Kitchen’s reputation for promoting and championing Ghanaian culinary heritage.
