Embattled Infantino says FIFA must close financial gap between 'big countries' and 'others'

Gianni Infantino, FIFA's president, has stated that the organization's responsibility lies in reducing the financial disparity between wealthy member nations and those with limited resources. This sentiment was expressed in a video interview following a meeting with the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) in the Dominican Republic. Infantino emphasized the need for equitable growth opportunities for all 211 FIFA member countries, highlighting that some prosperous federations are unwilling to allow others to flourish.

The FIFA chief faced significant criticism after proposing to sell a minority stake in a new commercial entity to private investors, which could have provided up to $40 million to each federations. Infantino maintains that the goal is to ensure all nations have equal access to resources and opportunities to develop football. Despite his re-election bid next year, some regional federations such as UEFA, AFC, and CONCACAF are considering a vote of no confidence against him, according to sources.

Infantino expressed satisfaction with his reception in the Dominican Republic and the CFU's under-14 Challenge Series. He also announced plans for the first U15 World Cup, aimed at providing resources for more children to participate in football worldwide.
