Beavers leads off 10th with pinch double to lift the Orioles past the Rays, 3-2

BALTIMORE (AP) — Dylan Beavers came to bat in the top of the 10th frame with a pinch double to right-center, driving in Leody Taveras from second base. This move secured a 3-2 triumph for the Baltimore Orioles against the AL East-leading Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday night. Prior to this, Samuel Basallo had tied the game at 2 in the eighth inning with a two-run home run off Kevin Kelly.

Bryan Baker allowed Beavers' double and Pete Alonso added two hits to reach 14-game hitting streak. Rico Garcia tossed a single inning for the Orioles' win, and Liam Hicks contributed two hits to extend his 13-game hitting streak. Tampa Bay scored first, with Pete Alonso hitting the opening homer and Rico Garcia retiring Shane Baz over five shutout innings.

Liam Hicks led off the second inning with a solo shot, and Tampa Bay led 1-0. In the sixth inning, Yandy Díaz came to bat but was thrown out by Tyler O’Neill attempting to advance to third base. Tampa Bay extended their lead to 2-0 with singles from Simpson and Junior Caminero. Jackson Holliday opened the eighth inning with a single, and Basallo followed with his first career pinch homer to center field.

O’Neill made a diving catch on Richie Palacios' bloop single to preserve the Rays' 2-1 lead. Baltimore's Brandon Young allowed two runs on six hits over 5 2/3 innings. In his second start since returning from the 15-day injured list, Shane McClanahan struck out five batters in five shutout innings. Tampa Bay's Shane Baz faced Baltimore's Shane Baz in the series finale on Sunday.
