Army intercepts three disassembled canoes procured for terrorist leader in Zamfara

Operation FANSAN YAMMA, a joint task force, intercepted three disassembled canoes on August 23, 2026, reportedly procured by terrorist leader Shehu Bagewaye to facilitate movement of his fighters in Zamfara State. The canoes were intercepted after credible intelligence indicated the items had been procured in Kebbi State's Yauri Local Government Area and were being transported to Zamfara.

These canoes were intended to help terrorists overcome river obstacles and improve their mobility for criminal activities. Acting on this intelligence, troops intercepted the canoes while they were being transported, and the conveyors abandoned them upon spotting the troops. The recovered canoes are currently in military custody, with efforts underway to track those involved in the attempted movement.

The military described this operation as a success in disrupting terrorist logistics, emphasizing their commitment to identifying and disrupting terrorist networks and their efforts to deny resources to criminal elements.
