Wike threatens to impound, auction commercial vehicles loading passengers outside Abuja terminals

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has taken steps to impound and auction vehicles operating outside designated parks in Abuja, as part of efforts to enforce transport regulations. During an inspection of significant road projects, including the Apo-Karshi Road and the Bwari-Kubwa Road, Wike addressed concerns over commercial taxi drivers who continue to pick up passengers along FCT roads instead of utilizing designated terminals like the Mabushi Bus Terminal.

The administration intends to continue enforcing these measures, including seizing and potentially auctioning vehicles found outside designated parks to ensure compliance. Wike clarified that building approvals for green spaces are typically granted by relevant departments, not directly by his office. A task force has been formed to remove unauthorized encroachments, and any vehicle discovered in designated green areas will be impounded, with the potential for auction if non-compliance persists.

Wike emphasized the importance of restoring order, stating, "We must restore order. If you do not vacate the green areas or use the accredited terminals, we will impound and auction those vehicles. Everyone must obey the rules."
