White-topping work launched on 2.2-km road stretch in Mysuru
Former Minister and MLA Tanveer Sait inaugurated white-topping works on a 2.2-kilometer road stretch in Mysuru on Saturday. The work, carried out from Manipal Hospital Circle to Millennium Circle, was announced by Mr. Sait after he launched the project. He informed that the State government had provided funds through the Public Works Department (PWD) to white-topper 12 major roads in the city, taking into account the rising vehicular traffic.
The foundation stone for the project was laid in the past when Siddaramaiah was the Chief Minister. Initially, works costing ₹67 crore are being undertaken, with a total budget of ₹121 crore earmarked for the project. Mr. Sait stated that white-topping would enhance road durability, reduce maintenance costs, and improve traffic flow.
He highlighted that 12 major roads with heavy traffic in Mysuru were earmarked for long-term development. The project involves white-topping, installation of paver blocks, development of footpaths, construction of RCC drains, installation of traditional electric lights, and shifting of water supply and underground drainage pipelines.
The work aims to improve road infrastructure ahead of the world-famous Dasara festival, when lakhs of tourists are expected in the city.
