US sanctions 'declaration of war on all nations', Iran says

Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, asserts that the recent US sanctions against Iran can be interpreted as a "declaration of war" on all nations. Fars news agency reports that Baghaei stated the new sanctions go beyond an "illegal economic war against a single nation." He claims the announcement seeks to assert the US's extraterritorial sovereignty over all independent UN member states.

Baghaei argues that no government possesses the authority to compel foreign banks, enterprises, or airports, each operating within its own sovereign jurisdiction, to refrain from engaging in legitimate trade with a third country. He contends that these secondary sanctions lack any foundation in international law and violate the principle of sovereign equality enshrined in the UN Charter's Article 2, Paragraph 1.

Baghaei warns that yielding to such intimidation would result in the complete erosion of national sovereignty and represent a catastrophic return to colonialism.
