Umahi’s son wins LG chairmanship seat in Ebonyi, pledges not to collect salary

Osborn Nweze Umahi, the son of Ebonyi State's former Minister of Works, David Umahi, has been elected as the new chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area. The 28-year-old contested the local government election as a candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Umahi secured his victory following a campaign strategy centered on grassroots mobilization, economic development, and enhanced local administration. Immediately after being declared the winner, Umahi Jr. announced his decision not to collect any salary or allowances during his tenure. He stated that this decision was driven by his commitment to allocate the local government resources towards development rather than personal financial gains.

The son of the state's former governor made it clear during the campaign that he would represent a new generation of politicians. He promised to bring elements of private-sector ideas, efficiency, and innovation into local government administration. Umahi Jr. emphasized the importance of strengthening grassroots governance and addressing the economic and social challenges faced by residents of Ohaozara.
